Cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play

Subscriptions on Google Play renew automatically unless you unsubscribe.

Make sure to sign in to the Google Account that has your subscriptions.

Cancel a subscription on the Google Play app

Steps to cancel a subscription on the Google Play app. Important: When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel.

  1. On your Android device, go to your subscriptions in Google Play.
  2. Select the subscription you want to cancel.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription.
  4. Follow the instructions.

Tip: If you have a subscription with an app and the app gets removed from Google Play, your future subscription will be canceled. Your past subscriptions will not be refunded.

Restart or resubscribe to a subscription

If your subscription is canceled, but still active

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions and then  Subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription you want to restart.
  5. Tap Resubscribe.
  6. Follow the instructions.

If your subscription is canceled, but has expired

If you cancel your subscription and the remaining time on your subscription has expired, set up your subscription again.

Tip: Some subscriptions may not be available to resubscribe.

You can resume your subscription anytime.

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription you want to restart.
  5. Tap Resubscribe.
  6. Follow the instructions.

Change the payment method for a subscription

The same payment method you used to buy the subscription will be charged when your subscription renews. Renewals may start 24 hours before each subscription period starts.

To change or update the payment method used:

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptionsand thenSubscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription you want to update.
  5. Tap Manageand then Update.
  6. Follow the instructions to update your payment method.

 If your payment method is declined or has insufficient funds, your subscription may be canceled. Add a backup payment method or set up your subscription again.

Change between subscriptions & prepaid plans

If the app developers allow, you can switch from a prepaid plan to a recurring subscription or from a recurring subscription to a prepaid plan.

When you switch, payments are processed immediately. Any days left on active subscriptions or plans are added on to the new subscription.

Tip: You can check if your subscription is recurring or a prepaid plan when you sign in to Subscriptions.

To change a prepaid subscription plan if allowed by developers:

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. Make sure you're signed in to the correct Google Account.
  3. Find and open the app that offers to upgrade from a prepaid plan to a subscription or downgrade from a subscription to a prepaid plan.
  4. Tap Manage subscription.
  5. Select the new plan you want to change to.
  6. Select a supported payment method.
  7. Tap Buy or Subscribe.

Check your subscriptions & renewal dates

  1. Go to your subscriptions.
  2. Under "Subscriptions," check the list of subscriptions for expired subscriptions or subscriptions with declined payment methods.

What happens after you cancel

When you cancel a subscription you'll still be able to use your subscription for the time you've already paid.

For example, if you buy a one-year subscription on Jan. 1 for $10 and decide to cancel your subscription on July 1:

  • You'll have access to the subscription until Dec. 31.
  • You won't be charged another yearly subscription of $10 the following Jan. 1.
  • For Play Pass subscriptions, you'll lose access to paid apps & games, in-app purchases, and ad-free experiences unlocked by your subscription. Learn more about Google Play Pass.

What happens after you cancel Play Pass

Any apps you installed from Play Pass and their data will remain on your device.

For content you obtained via Play Pass:

  • Paid apps will prompt you to buy the app or subscribe to Play Pass.
  • In-app purchases will be removed, but available for individual purchase.
  • Ads will reappear in apps where they were removed.
  • If you join Play Pass again, all this content will be unlocked again.

What happens when I cancel a prepaid plan?

Prepaid plans last for a limited time, so you don't need to cancel them. It'll automatically expire at the end of the billing period.

To cancel an unused prepaid subscription plan:

  1. Open the Google Play app Google Play.
  2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions.
  4. Select the subscription or prepaid plan you want to cancel.
  5. Tap Cancel subscription.
  6. Follow the instructions.
