Obi-Wan Kenobi ![]() | Drama/Sci-fi | Disney+
Rescheduled from May 25. Disney's latest Star Wars series—likely a miniseries, though one never knows—finds Ewan McGregor returning to the role he played in the three prequel films, Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi. The action picks up on Tatooine a decade following the events of Revenge of the Sith (which means that it's also roughly a decade before A New Hope), with Kenobi looking after a very young Luke Skywalker. Also returning from the films is Hayden Christensen, here playing Darth Vader, and Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse (reprising their roles as Owen and Beru), while newcomers include Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, Maya Erskine, Benny Safdie, and O'Shea Jackson Jr.. Deborah Chow, who has worked on The Mandalorian, directs the series in its entirety, while the scripts come from Joby Harold (who was hired to rewrite the series after Disney didn't like what Hossein Amini was writing and shut down production in early 2020, spurring rumors that the series would be canceled). Two episodes stream today, with four more to come over the next four weeks.

Stranger Things Trailer First 8 minutes | Drama/Horror | ![]()
The Netflix hit's fourth season finally arrives—in part—today after an atypically long three-year wait. Action in the show, however, picks up just six months after the season 3 finale, and will leave Hawkins a bit to also spend time in California as well as a Russian prison, where a still-alive Hopper (David Harbour) is being held. (But Hawkins High will also factor into this season's story after the school didn't really appear last season.) Priah Ferguson, who previously recurred as the young Erica Sinclair (Lucas's younger sister), is now a series regular, as is Brett Gelman, who has also appeared sporadically since season 2. New faces this season include Robert Englund (yes, the Freddy Krueger actor), Eduardo Franco, Mason Dye, Tom Wlaschiha, and Jamie Campbell Bower. Only seven of the nine episodes stream today; you'll have to wait until July 1st to watch the final two of the season (though they, like many in this first batch, are supersized) and until next year (or longer) to find out how the story ends when Stranger Things returns for its fifth and final season.

This posthumous special from the beloved comedian was self-recorded in Macdonald's own living room a year before his 2022 death—as a backup in case his leukemia would progress to the point where he could not perform the material in front of a crowd. (That, unfortunately, is exactly what happened.) In addition to Macdonald's final stand-up performance, the special will also include a tribute to Macdonald from fellow comedians like David Letterman, Adam Sandler, and Conan O'Brien that was taped during Netflix's recent comedy festival.

Directed in its entirety by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire), this six-part, FX-produced miniseries retells a portion of the life story of Steve Jones—in particular, his three years as the founding guitarist for the Sex Pistols. Adapted from Jones' own 2022 memoir Lonely Boy by screenwriter Craig Pearce, the series stars Toby Wallace as Jones, Anson Boon as frontman John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), Louis Partridge and Christian Lees as bassists Sid Vicious and Glen Matlock, respectively, and Jacob Slater as drummer Paul Cook. Also appearing are Sydney Chandler (as rocker Chrissie Hynde), Talulah Riley and Maisie Williams (as punk fashion innovators Vivienne Westwood and Jordan, respectively), Emma Appleton (as Nancy Spungen), and Thomas Brodie-Sangster as impresario/manager Malcolm McLaren. And despite a (losing) lawsuit filed by the real-life Lydon, who is unhappy with his lack of participation in the show, Pistol will indeed feature the band's music. All episodes stream today.

Borgen Trailer | Foreign/Drama | ![]()
Don't know Borgen? Well, get ready for your new obsession. This very bingeable Danish drama series is a Scandinavian (and, dare we say, superior) take on The West Wing that focuses on high-level politics in Denmark through the eyes of candidate turned Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg (Sidse Babett Knudsen), her key aides, and members of the press, including Katrine Fønsmark (Birgitte Hjort Sørensen). Three seasons (all now streaming on Netflix) originally aired from 2010-13, but today brings an all new, Netflix-co-produced fourth season (subtitled "Power & Glory") which takes place in the present day, when Nyborg is now serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs and Fønsmark has a new job as a TV news director. Much of the original cast returns with the notable exception of Pilou Asbæk.

Rescheduled from March 10. Returning with new episodes for the first time in three years, Seth MacFarlane's Star Trek spoof/homage finds the show moving from Fox to Hulu for its third season and adopting an altered title. The season—which could be the show's last, at least for quite a while, given its stars' commitments to other upcoming series—will feature the final performance by the late Norm Macdonald (returning as the voice of Yaphit), while new faces include Anne Winters and Babylon 5 star Bruce Boxleitner.
This Is Going to Hurt ![]() | Drama/Comedy | AMC+
Also streaming on Sundance Now, this comedic, seven-episode adaptation of Adam Kay's medical memoir stars Ben Whishaw as a low-level doctor struggling with the long hours and high demands of working in an OB-GYN ward of a British NHS hospital, with the series following him (and his colleagues) both at work and in their personal lives. British critics loved the series when it aired on the BBC earlier this year. New episodes stream weekly.

French director Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper, Summer Hours) adapts his own acclaimed 1996 movie into an A24-produced limited series that will debut at Cannes before airing on HBO and streaming on HBO Max. Taking over the role analagous to the one portrayed in the original film by Maggie Cheung (though Cheung was playing a version of herself), Alicia Vikander plays a disillusioned American actress who heads to Paris to star in a remake of the French silent film Les Vampires. But things get complicated on the problem-plagued set when the lines between her character and her real self begin to blur. The international cast also includes Tom Sturridge, Byron Bowers, Carrie Brownstein, Adira Arjona, Fala Chen, and Vincent Macaigne, while Assayas regular Kristen Stewart will also make an appearance. And the soundtrack comes from Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter.

The Janes ![]() | Documentary | ![]()
This rather timely documentary from Emma Pildes and Tia Lessin looks at the Jane Collective, an underground Chicago-based group that provided over 11,000 illegal abortions prior to the Roe v. Wade ruling. Reviews were excellent when the film debuted at Sundance early this year. (Also debuting at Sundance to less enthusiastic reviews was a dramatized look at the same subject that should reach theaters this fall.)
Ms. Marvel ![]() | Drama | Disney+
Kamala Khan (newcomer Iman Vellani) may feel like an outsider as a nerdy Muslim American teen growing up in New Jersey, but in many ways she's not all that different than her peers: She likes gaming and she loves Marvel comics, especially Captain Marvel. But what happens whe Kamala suddenly gets shape-altering superpowers of her own? Filmed in Thailand and the U.S., the six-episode Ms. Marvel introduces the first Muslim superhero to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she will move on to the big screen next year with a role in The Marvels. Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) direct the series along with Meera Menon and Emmy- and Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Co-created by author George R.R. Martin (and adapted from his 2022 novel Fire & Blood) and Ryan Condal (Colony), and produced and directed (in part) by veteran GoT helmer Miguel Sapochnik, the 10-episode first season stars Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, and Fabien Frankel. What will likely be the most expensive TV series of all time—with a budget reportedly twice that for the entire LOTR film trilogy, though it does come with free two-day shipping—finally makes its debut after years of production. Filmed in New Zealand like Peter Jackson's movies, prequel series The Rings of Power is not directly adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's books but instead depicts a brand new story set in the same world but taking place in the "Second Age," several millennia prior to the events of The Hobbit during a time in which the rings of power were forged by Sauron. Settings include the island kingom of Númenor and the Elvish capital, Lindon. J.A. Bayona directs the first two episodes, while the remaining S1 episodes come from Wayne Che Yip and Charlotte Brandstrom. Those episodes will stream weekly rather than all at once, and a second season (to be filmed in the UK) has already been ordered and will be dropped off behind the planter on your front porch sometime next year.
